EYMM Think Fall Blog Tour

I’m joining the EYMM Think Fall Blog Tour today to post about the great Off The Shoulder Top & Tunic I sewed up! I have had this pattern for a couple months but still hadn’t had a chance to make it yet with summer weather being so hot. But I’m gearing up for Back to School in a week and a half (yikes!), and this sweater is a perfect layering piece that will be great for upcoming cooler days!EYMM Think Fall Blog Tour

Now truly in California it won’t get to be “cool” until late September or so, maybe even October. So I picked a light and airy lacy knit for this sweater. My tiny girl turns 11 in a few days, but she’s still a size 8 in sewing patterns. Kimberly wants to wear the cooler pre-teen looks instead of little kid clothes, so the modern design of this top in a tunic length is a perfect choice for her style. In fact, she wore it 4 out of the 5 days after I made it, and had to bribe her to take it off to wash for pictures! She liked to layer a colorful cami underneath with her favorite pair of knit gauchos. Even on warm days this past week, she cozied up in her room with that cowl and a good book. When the weather turns, she can wear it with a long sleeved tee and jeans.

See that glare? That’s the “You’re taking pictures of me in a sweater outside in the heat” glare.

This pattern was really easy to make, but gives a very expensive looking garment. Kimberly’s friend’s mom asked for one in her size! Luckily, I have the women’s sized pattern already as well. Kymy’s patterns feature tiled pattern pieces that require no cutting of edges before taping together, definitely a time saver. The pattern instructions are easy to follow as well. The fun scrunchy cowl design looks harder than it is!

Oh that glare says it all. I get it. I just forced 2 of my kids to do fall shoots and its in triple digits this week. All for the love of sewing!

I love the simplicity of the white and it really looks beautiful on her.

Thanks, Melissa! Yep, doing boy shoots in pants and sweatshirts this week. It’s gonna be fun! I need to be prepared with ice cream, I think.

I love that she wanted to wear it every day! My kids do that occasionally and it makes my heart swell!

It’s definitely a reward of making clothes for them! When they just love it and it makes them happy, it makes me happy! I’m so glad I finally got a chance to make this for her and she loved it!

I love that sweater, and I agree, it is a great pattern for a tween. It is not too grown up but definitely not little girl looking. We would love for you to link it up at our linky party so other people who sew for tweens can know about that pattern. http://sewcoolforthetweenscene.blogspot.com/2014/08/linky-party-is-back-back-to-school.html

Although the pictures of it on babies are adorable, I do think it’s just right for this age. Thanks for letting me know; I’ve linked up!
